Burma

Today, I watched Burma VJ, a documentary about journalists who filmed, at great personal risk, the demonstrations in Burma during the summer of 2007.  These journalists smuggled their footage out of the country so that the world could know what was going on.  I’ve been wanting to watch this for some time ever since I started working with some refugees from Burma.  Once a week, I have the opportunity to meet with two teenagers from Burma, a brother and sister, and help them out with learning English and American culture.  Their parents and siblings are still in Burma and are unable to leave the country due to health issues.  Watching Burma VJ helped me understand the political and social situation these two kids have left behind.  If you have not yet seen it, please check it out.  If you’re in Denton, the Denton public library has a copy (which I will be returning now that I’m done with it!).  There is a large group of Burmese refugees (specifically from the Chin people group) in Lewisville.  If you’d like to learn more ways to get involved in helping them, please let me know!  Please join me in praying that one day the people of Burma may be free from oppression, and may God bless you and your neighbor through you today!
